Preparing for potatoes

Bought a 1kg bag of Swift seed potatoes along with a small bag of the recommended fertilizer, Morton Smith-Dawe Ltd Potato fertiliser (high grade). They are now spaced  apart in a box in the light to grow shoots (chitting) before planting.

I removed all the tender stems broccoli plants today, they looked great and the bees loved them but I want the bees to go to the plum tree now. It is blossoming nicely, like fresh popcorn :)

Swift potatoes are known as the earliest cropper on the market. They can be lifted as soon as just 7 weeks from the time of planting, so they will almost certainly be the first new potatoes of summer.
They produce a good crop of waxy white potatoes with a delicate sweetish taste. As they have a very short growing top, they can be planted closer together (around 10in apart).

 Also removed three of the brussels sprouts plants, they had succumbed to a strange purple aphid at the top so I rescued most of the sprouts, even the small ones. Not really worth growing for the space they took up really, make a note for next year!
